More than 16 families of North Texas Area Disciples Churches lost their homes or suffered severe damage after tornadoes ravaged Garland, Rowlett and other communities on the day after Christmas, 2015. First Christian Church of Rowlett and Cedar Grove Christian Church of Rowlett each escaped major damage, but demolished homes are visible from their buildings. FCC Rowlett served as as a major ministry center for the relief efforts, feeding people and providing onsite laundry services until other centers were organized and able to take over.
In addition, the North Texas Area Relief Fund is activated and, in partnership with Week of Compassion, provides support for the displaced families and the rebuilding effort. With more than 1,000 structures destroyed or damaged in Garland and Rowlett alone, the recovery effort will take a long time. Week of Compassion plans to assist DIsciples churches with those long-term efforts.Financial gifts can be made to either the NTA Relief Fund or Week of Compassion.
Both cities now have functioning command centers to coordinate volunteer registration, work assignments, and collection of supplies.

The next quarterly NTA Men's Breakfast is at 8:30 am at First Christian Church of Denton. David Dusek of Rough Cut Men's Ministries believes that the church must encourage men to develop relationships with other men for mutual support, and has developed a ministry approach that connects men to men, using clips from major motion pictures and discussion groups around issues facing men. Usually his program is a Friday-Saturday retreat, but he has consented to bring us a short version so we can sample his approach. THIS IS A MAJOR MEN'S EFFORT for 2016, and we want to see as many men as possible take advantage!
Them, on May 7, United Disciples Christian Church of Richardson will host the breakfast, and on August 6, the breakfast and program will be held at the newly renovated First Christian Church of Denison.
The Tri-Area Camping registration process now centralizes all registrations with fees being handled by the Disciples Crossing camp. The 2016 Camp Season schedule can be found at www.disciplescrossing.org.

The North Texas Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest has launched an on-line video seminar for churches in the NTA. The NTA has licensed the "Engaging Church" seminar produced by Church Growth, Inc. The arrangement allows the NTA to present the complete video seminar in its secure Member Portal for the clergy and laity of the North Texas Area.
The seminar discusses how to attract outsiders, connect visitors and integrate new members. The seminar is presented in high-quality Flash video in six sessions. In addition to all six full-length videos, the seminar workbook is provided, session summaries and an area-wide on-line discussion forum for talking about each session of the seminar. Also, Larry Ross, Area Minister and President of the North Texas Area is available to visit NTA churches in a follow-up capacity to help interpret and apply the principles of this seminar in a holistic way
