JYF Camp reports a case of Swine Flu
At the end of JYF Camp, it was learned that one of the boys, sent home Thursday night with a fever, has tested positive for Swine Flu (novel N1D1 virus). We are notifying parents of campers in as many ways as possible so if someone home from the camp begins to show symptoms, parents can take appropriate measures. The camp is following the Health Department's guidance closely, and is disinfecting the camp to prepare it for the next batch of campers. New campers will be closely observed and campers showing symptoms wil be sent home. Camper-parents are free to call the Area Minister at 972-272-2900 for further information. At least two other campers developed strep throat, but tested negative for N1D1.

General Youth Council Applications
It is that time of the year again when applications to serve on the General Youth Council are being accepted.
The General Youth Council of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is comprised of 15 to 17 members (10 to 12 youth, four adults plus staff) who meet at least once a year to plan, implement, evaluate and resource the general youth ministry program for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The General Youth Council is selected to represent youth of the denomination from regions and constituency groups, and seeks to be representative of youth in the whole church through a balance in gender, racial/ethnic background, and geographic representation. If you are interested in serving on the GYC please complete this form and email with a recent photo of yourself and all recommendation letters to lhernandez@dhm.disciples.org. 2009 General Assembly Will Explore Wholeness for All
Disciples from all walks of life will gather in Indianapolis from Wednesday, July 29 to Sunday, August 2, 2009 for the church’s biennial Assembly. Attendees will come from across the United States and Canada – and in many cases from around the world – to worship, learn, fellowship and discuss the future of our Church.
The 2009 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will center its work around Revelation 22:2 …“And the leaves of the trees shall be for the healing of the nations.” In choosing this verse as the centerpiece and guiding scriptural reference, organizers seek to complement the Disciples’ new identity statement (We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world) with a theme of relevance, energy, conviction – and healing.

Discover Moments in Disciples History
The Disciples of Christ Historical Society publishes a regular monthy feature titled "Moments in Disciples History." These features cover historical issues of interest to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
This month's feature "Our Upper Room" is about Thomas Campbell.
Thomas Campbell wrote what would become the clearest statement that anyone had made in a long time concerning the unity of Christians. Campbell's "Declaration and Address" was a plea for Christians to set aside partisanship and sectarianism. It described his heart's yearning for a life filled with a renewed faith that would un-do centuries of division.
Everything he said (and he had much to say) circled around a central theme. And it was this: "The Church of Christ upon earth is essentially, intentionally, and constitutionally one." In 1809, two hundred years ago this year, cloistered in his upper room, Thomas Campbell in one sentence gave us a truly wonderful idea. And in that giving, his upper room became our upper room.
