Disasters affect all of us! We do not want them to occur but the reality is, they are going to be a part of our lives. We as Christians are called to serve. We want to help but do not know how or where we can best serve. We can feel hopeless wanting to reach out to others as individuals and churches but do not have the training or access we need.
Victim Relief Ministries (VRM), based in Richardson, provides outreach during disasters as well as the training needed to be a part of this crucial ministry. In the past few years, Homeland Security and FEMA have designated only a few organizations that can be first responders as well as offer on-going support for disaster relief. Victim Relief Ministries is one of these organizations. The Dallas Area Judicatory leaders have joined with Victim Relief Ministries so church members can be trained to be a part of the response teams. VMR is offering a three hour Volunteer level training course from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. as part of our Outreach Leader Event. There is a $25 registration fee (separate from Leader Event fee) payable to VRM that includes materials, a Volunteer Yellow T-shirt, training and credentials to be able to respond. This is an excellent opportunity to learn of the ministries available to us as well as to be trained to be part of the response team during a devastating time in the lives of members of our communities.
