Camp T.R.U.T.H. Update

Dear Youth Ministers and Sponsors,

A while back, NTA-TBA-NEA offices sent out information on a proposed 3-day CYF weekend event called Camp T.R.U.T.H ("Tearing Racism Up by Transforming Hearts") - a joint project between black, white, and Hispanic Disciples in the North Texas , Trinity-Brazos, and Northeast Areas, intended to explore possibilities for Christian youth leadership in the area of racial reconciliation. Applicants were asked to compose a short essay, to show that they'd given some thought to the subject before the actual event. We got very little response.

Because we still believe this is important for the youth, organizers have decided to try holding a one-day event -- open to both junior high and high school students, with no essay requirement - to be held on July 17 at Rosemont Christian Church in Dallas. Music will be provided by a high-energy Christian rap group brought in by North Texas and a Latin-flavored worship team from one of the Trinity-Brazos Area churches. There will be interactive activities, and some challenging discussion in small groups. Short, intensive, but fun.

I hope your group will want to join with us. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Camp Truth - Previously Posted Information

Camp TRUTH (Tearing Racism Up by Transforming Hearts) is an anti-racism pro-reconciliation honors camp for high school youth. The camp is jointly sponsored by The Reconciliation Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and three Areas in the Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Northeast, North Texas, and Trinity-Brazos).

The primary goal of Camp TRUTH is to equip 60 teens with skills for reconciliation work such as learning to value and appreciate diversity, identifying root causes of racism and debunking myths associated with those causes, being allies in anti-racist coalition building, advocating for justice for persons in the margins of society, and to become change agents in the three co-sponsoring Areas as well as the Christian Church in the Southwest.
