Central Christian Church located at 4711 Westside Drive, just west of the Dallas North Tollway and south of Beverly Drive, invites you to visit. The church is a Disciples of Christ congregation, the oldest American-founded denomination (c. 1801).
This specific church is the longest continuously operating Protestant congregation in Dallas, established in 1863.
It is sometimes called the “hidden little gem of Dallas churches." It is not large. It is, instead, wonderfully intimate. The church offers a personal, meaningful worship experience with great dignity and intelligence. Central Christian has the charm of a small town congregation right in the middle of a big city.
The vision of the church is to be the hospitable hands of Jesus for our neighbors, near and far.
The mission of the church is to invite our neighbors to a life of faith in Jesus Christ and into our congregation. To those ends, we would love to welcome you.
The Central Christian Church family is committed to caring for one another and encouraging spiritual growth. Our communion table is open -- welcoming everyone whose faith is in Jesus Christ. Friend and fellowship are readily found at Central.
The sanctuary is a place of reverent, but joyful worship -- featuring the chancel choir, and the Ebby Halliday/Maurice Acres pipe organ. At Central, each person charts his or her own spiritual path and participation in worship -- choosing from a wide range of cultural, creative, and spiritual activities.
For a close-knit support and study experience ”small groups” meet in the homes of members to provide an opportunity for personal growth and precious friendship.
New this year, starting this March, the Central Academy will begin after school classes - encouraging academic and artistic development.
A theater troupe at Central performs two major plays or musicals each year. This past summer ”A Joyful Noise," the story of Handel and the Messiah, was the extraordinary summer production.
A quiet little garden for meditation and prayer is tucked between the main building and "Little Church." Its landscaping and seating provide a small sanctuary of peace, reminding us that ”first, God made a garden.”
This ladies group meets each Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., room 101 at Central Christian. Their mission is to create items such as pillows, afghans, blankets, caps, and slippers for cancer patients.
The church hosts an Alcoholics Anonymous chapter each week. Also, Vision Mundial Para La Familia, a new, Spanish-language Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church meets each Sunday afternoon.
The Central Dog Park has become a popular meeting place for neighbors and their four-legged friends. Located behind the main campus, it is almost an acre of fenced and secure area for ”Rover” to romp and play. Each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. (weather permitting), the dog park hosts an informal time of worship and devotionals. Coffee and danish is served. For about 20 minutes we worship God under the trees. Dogs abound. Wow! What a unique experience.
The Central Soccer Fields provide a home for the Park Cities YMCA Y-Sports program for 4 and 5-year-olds scheduled team practice and play. It is also a favorite venue for neighborhood children to come and enjoy a game with friends.
