From Your Area Minister

It is hard to believe that as of January, 12 years have passed since I became Area Minister. At that time I was not quite 50, and my 3 children were all grown and out of the house. Today, all three are married and I enjoy 6 grandchildren! I came to this ministry of the North Texas Area, coming here after 30 years of pastoral ministry in churches in Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and Texas.

Ten years ago, we were in leased office space on the edge of our geography. Today, we are in a church building graciously donated by Western Heights Christian Church and now used to its fullest as a Mission Center, with a refugee ministry that served 1500 refugees last year, and a vibrant Hispanic congregation nesting here. During these ten years, we have had a net growth of the number of churches but a net loss of participating members in those churches.

Twelve years ago, we did not have a website or a Facebook page. Now we do. Tweeting was something birds did, but not people. I still do not tweet, but many churches do!

In those years, it has been my privilege to counsel and support ministers, help churches navigate pastoral transitions, help ministers find new places and kinds of ministry, help honor saints at life's end, help navigate church disagreements, share in ordinations, installations, and commissionings, train and support leaders, and to bring churches together to accomplish more than they could ever do separately.

The North Texas Area is strong and vibrant. The ministries we have been able to do together, and the programs our support makes possible, are many, varied, and excellent. From Camps and Conference to New Church Establishment to Revitalization, the time, talent, and treasure given by our volunteers IS making a difference in church life in North Texas!

It is my hope that this website will be a centerpiece of communication for the North Texas Area. Please visit often to view the latest news, to share prayer requests and prayer support, and to let me know how you are doing.

I am, after all, here to serve.
