Hurricanes Harvey and Florence Response

The Area Minister of the Coastal Plains Area gives thanks to all the people and churches that have given monies and volunteer efforts to assist in the recovery from  flood and storm damage to churches and families affected by Hurricane Harvey. First Christian Church of Rowlett, First Christian Church of Plano and Central Christian Church of Dallas stepped up to help coordinate donations of cleanup and hygiene kits. More than $70,000 has been given through the Coastal Plains Area. Much more aid is being coordinated with Week of Compassion. Yet, with a third of the churches there experiencing minor to severe damage, there is still a great need. for the latest! Visit for more information!
Now, the churches in North and South Carolina are in need of help due to the damage from Hurricane Florence. As experience has shown, cash gifts through the Week of Compassion are by far the best way to respond to disaster related needs. There will be volunteer opportunities in a few months, when preparations to receive volunteers have been completed.

Southwest Region continues Restructure

God is at work in the Southwest Region! Over the years, there have been several efforts to reorganize the Region to increase the entire Region’s effectiveness and viability.

There is now an approved redesign that will place all administrative and staffing responsibilities at the Regional level, with a Regional staff consisting of a Regional Minister, Regional Executive, and Community Regional Ministers and support staff located across the entire Region. Areas would continue to provide valuable volunteer-led ministry. Click below to read more about the background and process that led us to this point.

NTA News:

The North Texas Area Board has approved this Area's participation in Regional Restructure. This Area will continue its current programs though the end of 2019, and congregations should continue to support the Area through Dec. 31, 2019. As of January of 202o, NTA churches should send the same level of support (or more) to the Christian Church in the Southwest's office. Beginning January of 2020, the NTA Area Board and Cabinet will continue Area work on a volunteer basis, and receive ministry from a Regionally called and deployed Community Regional Minister yet to be selected.

The Engaging Church Seminar
Is On-Line at the NTA Website!

engaging_church_250w.jpgThe North Texas Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest has launched an on-line video seminar for churches in the NTA. The NTA has licensed the "Engaging Church" seminar produced by Church Growth, Inc. The arrangement allows the NTA to present the complete video seminar in its secure Member Portal for the clergy and laity of the North Texas Area.

The seminar discusses how to attract outsiders, connect visitors and integrate new members. The seminar is presented in high-quality Flash video in six sessions. In addition to all six full-length videos, the seminar workbook is provided, session summaries and an area-wide on-line discussion forum for talking about each session of the seminar. Also, Larry Ross, Area Minister and President of the North Texas Area is available to visit NTA churches in a follow-up capacity to help interpret and apply the principles of this seminar in a holistic way
