From the Pastor

As Pastor at Community Christian Church, welcome to this introduction, via website, of a great family of faith!  I am David Cartwright and have been Pastor here since July 2005.  I am in my twenty-sixth year of ministry with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) having served congregations in Ft. Worth, TX; Crowley, Louisiana; Durham, North Carolina; Longview and Big Sandy, TX; Elkhart, Iowa and now here in Richardson.

I grew up in the Christian Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I graduated High School and attended LSU for three years before feeling the pull to transfer to TCU in Fort Worth.  I met my future wife that first day on campus, and we quickly became best friends.  We graduated and attended seminary together at Brite Divinity School, where we were married during our second year of seminary.  We planned on doing co-ministry together (which was popular for a while) and did so for our first church after ordination.  Unfortunately, it was our first and only experience doing co-ministry.

We moved to North Carolina shortly after our daughter was born, where I had my first experience of being a solo pastor.  Until we moved to Iowa, our daughter grew up thinking that everybody had two churches that they alternated between every other Sunday.

Along the way, I have also had the pleasure and challenge of teaching and coaching on the Junior High School level and teaching freshmen and sophomores on the college level.  I’ve recently completed a three-year Spiritual Director training program through HeartPaths DFW.  In addition to offering Direction, I am now helping to teach the first-year students in this program.

Hobbies include fishing, archery and bow-hunting, board games, bowling, and more intently, golf, here in the Metroplex.  I am still trying to learn the art of consistency and control tempered with relaxation and peace on the golf course, even though they rarely seem to be, or stay, in balance.

I believe God has brought us together in this faith community to share the Good News of Christ Jesus through fellowship, prayer and worship, and service to our community and our world.  We do not have the loudest or biggest voice, but we do have a genuine and caring voice that is matched by our actions.  We believe and have witnessed answered prayer, so we anticipate the movement of God’s Spirit in our midst.  You are invited to become a part of this faith family because you may be one of the answers to our prayers.

In Christ’s service together wherever He leads,
David
