NTA Men's Breakfast - November 7th

swgsm_fp_180w.jpgFeliberto Pereira, founder of Good Samaritan Ministry, was the speaker at the last NTA Men’s Breakfast, Nov. 7, at First Christian Church of Carrollton, and kicked off “Mike’s Kids”, a ministry of the NTA that gathers new and gently used toys and children’s clothing from NTA churches for refugees in South Texas and orphans in Matamoros. Feliberto  gave his testimony about the effect these gifts have had on the lives of hundreds over the years. Banana boxes in which to place donations can be secured by contacting Mikes Kids at     or at any of the many Christian Churches cooperating with this project.

Great Communion - Oct. 4th

2009 is the 200th anniversary of our call for Christian unity. In his "Declaration and Address" (written in 1809), Thomas Campbell said that the Church in the whole world is united...it is One. 100 years ago, our ancestors celebrated Campbell's call for unity with a Great Communion service. Our dream is that on Sunday, October 4, 2009, congregations all across the United States...and all around the world...will meet together and celebrate Communion and remember our common heritage.

Several years ago the Board of Trustees of Disciples of Christ Historical Society looked toward 2009 and realized that we did not want to miss the opportunity to mark the bicentennial of Thomas Campbell’s “Declaration and Address.” While there are other events and documents that we have also remembered, everyone agreed that this 1809 document truly formed the constitution for our movement. Its thesis is “the church of Christ upon earth is essentially, intentionally, and constitutionally one.” It is the clarion call for unity that has been the hallmark of the Stone-Campbell movement.

2009 General Assembly Will Explore Wholeness for All

ga09-Logo-250w.jpgDisciples from all walks of life will gather in Indianapolis from Wednesday, July 29 to Sunday, August 2, 2009 for the church’s biennial Assembly. The 2009 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will center its work around Revelation 22:2 …“And the leaves of the trees shall be for the healing of the nations.” In choosing this verse as the centerpiece and guiding scriptural reference, organizers seek to complement the Disciples’ new identity statement (We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world) with a theme of relevance, energy, conviction – and healing.

“God’s Positioning Spirit” Transformation Event in January

DHMlog0_180w.jpg

For clergy and congregations in search of renewed life.

The second transformation event, “God’s Positioning Spirit,” will take place in Oklahoma City over the Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, Jan. 16-18, 2009. While following up on the first event in Jan. of 2006, this training will be complete and is appropriate for anyone eager for congregational transformation. It is especially designed for churches and clergy who look down the road and see an end to their congregation’s vitality….if something doesn’t change.

GPS guides (keynote speakers) will be Ben Bohren and Sandhya Jha, the regional ministry team for northern California/Nevada. They will lead us through the common elements of transformation defined by the General Transformation planning team after the Arlington 2006 event. Other workshop leaders will include Matt Rosine from the New Beginnings program, Felix Ortiz from Overseas Ministries (who will help congregations look at cross-cultural ministry in their neighborhoods), and local pastors whose congregations are successfully engaged in transformational ministry.

Registration cost for the event will be $200 a person. We will accept registrations up to the day of the event, but the registration cost will go up to $250 a person after Dec.15th. Registration cost will include the Friday night dinner, as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday night meal is on your own with plenty of options in the Bricktown area in Oklahoma City.

The site of the conference will be the downtown Sheraton Hotel. Cost per room per night is $89.
